Many of you already know Lenore & I and Neil & Lorna run a cinema. Some of you also know, in one of our projection rooms we have a full size commercial digital projector. This digital projector is capable of playing DVD's on our cinema screen in full size - excellent quality too.

So, we've decided to make use of this technology and invite anyone interested to the following MINI filled extravaganza day out!

Meet in Galashiels ASDA car park. (CraigD has already agreed to lead a convoy down from Edinburgh for all the central belt starters. Separate thread for this has started)

Watch the Italian Job movie (2003 - Mark Wahlberg version). (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317740/) Note: There will be NO Admittance Charge for this. Partly 'cos we're not allowed to under licensing laws but mostly 'cos we love ya all baby. :o ;)

Short drive to Milestone Garden Centre (http://www.milestonegardenandleisure.com/) in Newtown St Boswells for lunch. Restaurant menu is here. (http://www.milestonegardenandleisure.com/route68menu.htm) Note: If the run generates significant numbers there may be a restriction on the menu choices for us lot.

Then after lunch a wee run from Milestone through Selkirk - Out the Yarrow valley - Innerleithen - and up the golf course road to the A7 then up to the outskirts of Edinburgh, ending in Tesco's car park at Dalkieth.

The run from Gala to Milestone to Tesco's Dalkieth is only about 60 miles.

We will be aiming to get the run finished for about 4pm at the latest, taking into account the time of year and lack of daylight hours. The exact times have yet to be sorted but it is likely the film will need to start about 10AM.

A.:D

really why would that be.?? You've lost me bit on this one I was simply asking a honest question.

You already know I wouldn't buy your sweets as I think I've told you many times before. I simply didn't want to upset or offend you by bringing my own sweets.

It was just a simple question.

AndyP & Lenore
16th October 2007, 09:42 PM
OK. Sorry Fi. Just was surprised at the question.

I think it only fair to keep to our standard policy, which is that we prefer our customers didn't bring their own food into the cinema, but we don't actively stop them doing so. We just glare at them, accusingly.:(

vintageb3
16th October 2007, 10:01 PM
In order to be fair...I think you should give an example picture of your glare?

In this way...those planning on attending the event in question can work out what will upset them most...your glare....or the price of your popcorn:D

Are you in the correct thread? This is the Italian Job Movie MINI Run thread on Sunday 18th November. If you want to sign up for this run, that's cool, you're more than welcome, just let me know.

I see you're signed up for the Christmas Cracker run on Sunday 30th December.... is that the thread you meant? Or do you want to sign up to this run too?

Howdy,

I've added you to the run.

As for the cost of lunch..... depends on what you have. I think their soup is about £2.50 to £3.00.... Toasties/Panini's/Baked Potatoes ETC., £3.00 to £5.00. And they usually have a selection of hot plate dishes which are usually about £6.00 to £8.00.

Cheers,

Oh dear.:(

Our beloved Scottish Borders Council has decided this Sunday - 18th November - would be a good day to carry out major rebuilding of one of the main roads on the run. And to ensure they won't be bothered by any drivers, they're closing the road. It's the A72 Clovenfords to Peebles road. So Lenore and I are going out tomorrow to find an alternative. It means the route notes will be a wee bit different, and I won't have time to re-do them before Sunday, so we'll all need to keep a close eye on the guy in front.:(

The alternative (cancelling the run) doesn't bear thinking about. :(

More as I know it.;)

OK. Run saved. :D :D :D

Sorted out an alternative route which will extend the run by about 10 to 15 miles - ish. Gonna drop the lunch time down to 1 hour so we can still finish at a reasonable hour.

I will upload the new notes when I get home from work - about 11pm tonight.

The new notes don't have mileages on them after a certain point because I don't have the time to check all the mileages at junctions etc. But they still contain enough info to get everyone from lunch to the end no problem.

New notes now available for download from the first post, or HERE! (http://www.reachercreatures.com/minirun/IJNotesB.pdf)

Note: the mileages stop after about 20 miles, because of the last minute change to the route caused by closure of one of the main roads in the Borders.

Brilliant day had by the Nicol's, sorry we were late but the road dafties decided to close loads of roads on the road from Penicuik. Big thanks to all the Pooles very well organised as always. I could have done with a wee pee break during the run after lunch, my bladder nearly burst:)
Nice wee biscuits too (my fav). Nice to see some new faces today so no excuses now to come to Mini Meats in the future. Sorry to hear that MrC wasn't well today after his meal at the Chinese but hey you live and learn, eh spewey. Great roads and a thank you to Elfman for some great exhaust notes.

My pleasure as always Jason!

BIG Thanks to all for a FAB day - just goes to show what you can do when you 'POOLE' your resources! My first visit to your cinema folks - lovely place - knocks spots off those faceless multi-multi-multi-screens I usually go to. So Andy, Lenore, Neil and Lorna, take a bow!

Thought the 'Milestone' did a fine job putting on the wee quiz for us, along with some excellent nosh. (Thanks to KERR for helping me and Tony with the answers - but don't tell anybody!)

Hope Jude's feeling better, Craig.

Stoney - we did go the M8 and had a safe run home (despite me having a go at a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S at Bellshill - well he shouldn't have undertaken us on the M/way...... he lost in the curves, but won on the straight by the way. Still, that's what you get with 450-0dd bhp....Git. I should've been in 3rd when he came past again, not fourth.......one of these days I'll learn to drive properly).

Good to see the new and slightly less new faces. All in all, a great way to brighten up a driech Sunday. ps Good luck with the NewMiniScotland Ambulance Malcolm and Siobhan - all the more room to pack picnic goodies for the Summer runs!!!!! See y'all soon y'hear. 'Yee', and indeed, 'Hah'!

Many thanks to everyone for all the "thankuuuuu's".;)

We had a great time. Good to see everyone again, and even if I do say so myself, were those some cracking MINI roads, or were those some cracking MINI roads? It's a shame though, the low cloud spoilt the view as you came round the bend over Middleton Moor; normally you get a fantastic view of the the whole Forth valley taking in the Bridges, Arthur's seat, Leith and everywhere in-between.

We even managed to get through the day with only losing one wee posse once. To be fair, there was only FOUR people in the car, and I'm guessing none of them could read the notes. All in Jest of course, Penguin Pusher, I'm glad you enjoyed the run.:D :D

That film has put us back in the mood for a "supercharger" again. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.........

Great day big thanks to the Pooles, very nice cinema you've got there. :D

Those roads were cool  you have to include them in another run, preferably a dry one.

Certainly the best fun I could have had on such a damp and dreary day.

Euan your exhaust is sounding sweeeet must be that new intercooler.

Good to see some new faces, didn't get much chance to have a chat, but no doubt we will see yas all again now that you've experienced a MINI adventure.

hello, just to add my appreciation towards the pooles for a fantastic day.

tbh the detour was an evil mastermind, i was planning on pushing through and making another run but alas it was a dead end. ;)

about the trip home stone, think today was my day for going everywhere and getting nowhere. i had to double back as i realised i had left some stuff at the cinema, so went back, then realised i had to be home for church at six so decided to pelt it along the motorway and ask for forgiveness lol.

sorry i didnt give you a heads up but i didnt have a way to contact you...

hopefully ill see you all on the run on the 30th december

once again thanks to all for the great fun and the great day

Forgot to say.... what a cracking job Milestone did of looking after us today. I was well impressed. And neither Lenore or I knew anything about the mini MINI hunt. Added an extra wee twist to the lunch time.

I've copied below an email I just sent to Ross, the Manager of Milestone.

A.;)

Hi Ross,

On behalf of all the MINI runners today, I just wanted to send you an email thanking you for the hospitality shown to all of us today.

We were all very impressed with the speed with which we were served, the quality of the food and choice on offer.

The mini MINI hunt was the icing on the cake, it was great fun and seemed to go down well with everyone. NewMiniScotland.co.uk MINI runs are about having a fun time in good company, with a sense of adventure. The way we were welcomed to Milestone today, perfectly embodied that ideology.

I would be obliged if you could pass on our thanks to all your staff, for their professionalism and hospitality today.

Best regards,

Andrew Poole

Could we have a more fun time in such friendly company as we do in NMS? Well not fully clothed anyway...... Throw in some great roads and good food - SPOT ON. The cars are the best, but the people are better.

Penguin Pusher (please don't ever explain that) - don't worry about the wrong direction - we've all done it, and we'll do it again. Welcome to the wonderful lost world of NMS!

Vicky - hope your brother's OK.

Zimbo, it was a tough choice, cause I loved the soft top especially with the hood down; but the car is 3 years old and soft tops don't last forever. Always loved the old clubman (woody) so thought we'd give the new one a go.

Will miss the whine big style but Dad says we can have some fun with a "dump valve" whatever that is:confused:

A wee update on this run. We were in Milestone for Lunch a few days ago, and the Manager, Ross, was telling me they featured this run in their newsletter which goes out to all their membership customers. He gave me a copy so I've scanned it in for you all to see.

We'll be using Milestone for the lunch venue for the Heart Of The Borders run in September.
