View Full Version : Mini tuners in Scotland

Hi all, 1st proper post...
I've posted this on mini2 and suspect I know the answer, but here goes:
Is there an equivalent of Lohen or GTT in Scotland? Basically, I want to increase the power to 210-220 and these two seem to be the preferred tuners. From reading various posts in this thread, it would appear that a few have gone to Lohen and I know some have even gone as far as Dorset for the GTT treatment.
Having just driven the Mini from London to Perth (via Amsterdam and Hull - work related), I don't really want to slog back down south again, although I realise that the return could be fun.

Don't quote me on this but i think IF Motorsports at Knockhill Racing Circuit may do some road car MINI work. They prepare a few of the cars for the Scottish MINI Cooper Cup.
I think the website is www.ifmotorsport.com (http://www.ifmotorsport.com)
Maybe worth a try.

Personally i would go with the ones already recommended, they have a very good reputation.
With winter coming in i'm not so sure you'll get the benefit of a big change in power with the poor road conditions, so, you won't really need to get it done now, which, would give you time to recharge your batteries before driving down to get the work done later :)
Also, BBR are worth considering, they offer a wide range of conversions with a very aggresive option.
And, the ultimate, minimaniauk are developing a massive 300BHP turbo conversion, well worth a look ;)
This doesn't answer your quest for a Scottish tuner, but...............

The gauntlet has been laid down.;)
Dastek. They do a stage 1 upgrade for the R53 cooper s. Not sure if you are an R53 or R56 owner.
Anyway, their Stage 1 kit includes a reduced supercharger pulley and a Unichip piggyback remap system - where the remap is actually on a piggy back chip which plugs into your engine management system. Not as scary as it sounds.
We've always had great service from Dastek, but I know others speak differently of them. I would encourage you to seek others advice before committing to Dastek.
We had a JCW air filter fitted to our R53, as well as the Dastek stage 1 kit and we were mapped by Dastek to 208bhp. One advantage of going to Dastek is they will map your car live on their own dynonometer, so it's not just a plug and play remap, it's a remap tuned to YOUR vehicle.
The Dastek Stage 1 cost was about £950 fitted, however, on looking at the market lately (for a mate who has just bought an R53 and has itchy feet to boost his power), you can achieve similar results for a fair bit less with other providers these days. I am sure I saw someone offer an upgrade to about 210BHP for about £550 ish???
I have to say though, although I've never used them, Lohen do get very good feedback from everyone who has used them. And to top it all off, they are official site sponsors.;)
If you need any more info, PM me.;)
