So looks like my R56 had the gear box issue reported on other R56's...
When I change down to 2nd / 3rd at times it crunches, just like if you have not engaged the clutch properly. Seems in particular to happen when changing down to get some engine braking.
So looks like the May'07 build cars are no better than the earlier ones
Just have to hope the supply of replacement parts is a lot better than people found on the earlier cars..suppose I will find out soon enough.

Sorry to hear that Fergus. Pretty sure it's always been fixed on first attempt.
Glad we've got the auto though.;)

I hope so...and just have to hope they have the bits in (assuming they get it also to make the noises).... plus side is I'll get them to hopefully sort the latest dash rattle at same time.

Craig was telling me he has numerous dash rattles. We're lucky enough not to have any dash rattles really. Occasionally the in-dash storage compartment will rattle. But we've cured that now. I've been told on no uncertain terms it's never to be opened. We do get some B pillar rattles though. And our arm rest creaks when I lean on it. That problem has been solved by Lenore too. Don't lean on it.

Much better idea to actually get things sorted... what happens if you drivers seat starts creaking...not use it ?? ;)
I have one wee dash rattle...and hoping by time it and gerabox sorted that the car will be back to 100% perfect !

I know what you mean. Our R53 Cooper S had loads of rattles and it was in the dealer about 5 times to get them sorted. That was fine when the dealer was 5 miles away. Easy enough. But now our dealer is 45 miles away. Not so easy to just pop in on the way to work anymore. I miss Dunedin Selkirk. Never thought I'd say that.

I find it funny that some classic mini owners say the new mini is not a mini, Its certainly shaping up to be just as bad as the classics:D
I have repaired shed loads of classic mini gearboxes, and classics leaked wated too:D
And the were made in the UK, oh how the list goes on :)

Sorry to hear you are having problems Fergus.
My car was a Nov 06 build and it's problems with the gearbox (the same as yours) were known about back in February, so why a May build car is being sent out with the same problem is beyond me.
It is either incompetence, stupidity, or what I suspect which is money saving - lets send it out that way, rather than fix it, 'cos if the customer doesn't notice it, then we have saved some cash
I am absolutely appalled that this is still happening and think that nearly 11 months down the line MINI should be getting it right by now, especially with faults they have known about (and have fixes for) for months. :(
The only good news, is that if they fix the problem properly, it does seem to stay fixed and not return.

Its so smooth in comparison to the mcs .The build quality is good 350 miles no probs . The Vtec is awesome 5500 revs then the noise is awesome , & the 0/ 60 is a 10th faster than the S:D :D :D :D :D

Is it a sort of crack noise?
If it is, it may well be your windows against the rubbers. Try opening your window by a really small amount to see it if stops.
Getting some gummi-pflege spray from BMW and clean the rubbers and apply this every month or so, sorted mine.
