Mentioned this in another thread so have started this to gauge interest. Plan is to leave from Dundee-Meigle-Blairgowrie-Glenshee-Braemar-Lecht-Duffttown-Banchory-Cairn'O'Mount-Edzell. I'm not sure what exact route yet but will check multimap routeplanner to see what we could fit in .

Sorry I haven't put up run notes yet I'm in the middle of selling/buying a house. I'll hopefully get them done in the next day or two.
Plan is to stop at the Spittal of Glenshee (1hour into the run) for something to eat then maybe lunch at Banchory depending on time. Could anyone recommend somewhere in Banchory?

No, Its not off . I've been struggling to get the route details on Multimaps (keeps suggesting roads I don't want to use no matter how many via points  ) I should be able to get details if I plot it all out in stages or if anyone knows a better way to get route details let me know.

To be honest, the only way to get accurate route details is to go out and drive the roads. Record the mileage at every junction and note whats is said on the road signs.

I realise that's a tall order this close to your run, but you really can't plan out and draw up run notes from multimap. What if there's some major roadworks going on that you don't know about, or if the council are stone-chipping a section of road you wanted to use. Etc., Etc.

That's what I do, but other organisers may have a different approach.

If I can help with any other advice, PM me or email me.

Cheers,

Or...why don't we all concide that this is just a Sunday jaunt out.

I did this route with Scottish Mini...and there was no run notes...it was simple case of keep the car in front of you and behind you in sight at all times.

No one got lost.

least I don't think:confused:

Hi there, just thought I'd check this wee thread out to see what route you're taking. Just want to say, if you're going to from Meigle to Blair via Coupar Angus be warned, there are some horrendous road works at the Red House Hotel which take forever and don't let many cars through!! Also, for the Spittal, make sure there's not some Highland Clan re-union like when I did the Harvest Run, the service was fine, but there was no parking at all!! (God bless Squidge the hedgehog!!;) )

However if you're going the rollercoaster road (past Alyth) have a blast!!:D

And get yourself free;)

GREAT!!!!!!!! Run today!!!!! HUGE Thanks go out to Lee and Mel;)

Good folks on good roads.

You old stiffy layabout types that pulled out of the run missed a cracker:eek:

Mr Malcolm Sir!...Hot air...yes I agree...far too much:(

And before Stoney comes in here and spills the beans...I will tell all about my run boo boo:(

OK...this time I did fill up with fuel...so no that's not my boo boo.:p

When I started out on the run...the car just didn't feel right...it handled like a pregnant duck....so much so that I had to slow way down....I just couldn't keep up with the other cars and knew i was keeping folks back. To add to this...the ASC light came on and stayed on....so I kept switching off the ignition to get rid of that....but the ASC was working...I could feel it kicking in at times;)

We stopped a few times and I complained about the handling of the car...

Kim felt it too...and for once...when we went into corners...I could see by the way she was looking for something to grab onto...she knew things were not right either.

I was about to call Lee...and pull out of the run...when we just happened to stop to re group.

I got out of the car and started looking underneath at the extra braces at the back of the car. I had to do a mod to get the playmini on the ragtop...and I did think that my mod had given way.

Anyway...a concerned Malcom comes over and asks if I still had concerns.

Then he said "What about tyre pressures?"

I had discounted that because I had checked them just before the Manky Thrash...and filled the tyres up then....But Malcolm had his digital tyre pressure gauge to hand...so we thought we better check.

The first tyre read: 42PSI:eek: In fact...they all read 42PSI!

So...we knocked down the air to about 36PSI(because the air was hot)

We headed off again...and BINGO!!!! I had my cornering back again!!!

Car dug in to every corner (maybe because the rubber was still in molten form?)

I knew things were OK again and that i was keeping up...because the stones and dust were hitting my bonnet from Stoney's car;)

SO..a lesson to be learned here. NEVER trust a forecourt air machine.

No wonder I haven't wanted to drive the car in a spirited fashion for a while.

Also expalns why the hell I was skidding all over the place on the Manky as well.

This is twice this has happened to me....my Tesco's digital gauge (£3.99) is now in the car...won't happen again!

When we picked up our R56 from Menzies, they hadn't dropped the tyre pressures down from delivery pressure to what they should be. Took us a wee while to figure out why the handling seemed.... "off". Turned out the pressure was in the mid 50's PSI!!!!! Was not a happy chappy.

A.

vintageb3
15th October 2007, 12:04 AM
Bit annoyed that I didn't suss this out earlier...but IF you have checked your pressures...you assume that they are correct.

AND...it didn't feel like over inflation...it felt like something wasn't right with the back end...bracing or suspension. Can't say it felt twitchy...just cumbersome...and wouldn't "dig in" on corners.

Meant to say....the ASC light only came on (and stayed on) when I was at high revs...so hopefully that was related to the over inflation of the tyres.

Glad that nothing is wrong in the end.
