Hi,
Went for a test drive in a grey Cooper S, 6 months old,3000 miles and thought it was quite quick. Whilst I am tempted, the thought of moving from a straight-six to a four cylinder is rather worrying. So I need some convincing...
What faults should I look out for if any? Can the chromeline interior kit on the R56 be fitted aftermarket by Mini? What are you 'genuinely' getting in terms of MPG?
Its all so confusing - does anyone have any pics of their own R56 in metallic grey which could convince me further?
Cheers

Right,
here are some pics first.....

Now the question of MPG.... I went on the Manky Thrash today and on the way up on the motorway sticking to 75 - 80 mph, returned 40.2mpg. After the "Thrashing" and the run home, it overall showed 35.3mpg. These figures are really good for a car that feels every bit as quick as a Supercharged JCW S. :D :D
As for faults..... (Jings how long have you got.....!;) ) Seriously though, here are the main ones to look out for..
A grind noise changing down into 2nd gear from 3rd or 4th... This needs a new modified flywheel and clutch.
A funny smell coming into the cabin (Like petrol and will give you a sore head after a while) Faulty fuel pump which needs replaced.
a low down rattle at about 1500rpm when pulling away, this needs a new modified alternator, V Poly Pulley Belt and Aircon pulley..
I've had quite a few more, but these are the main ones....
Oh aye, nearly forgot, the "infamous" sound of rushing water from the passenger side of the dash board and also when the car is started from cold, it sounds like a diesel...  :) .
Best of luck.

Thats just interference from the CIA and the FBIs bugging devices that are spying on you, to stop the spread of the real story about 11/9 from getting out. ;) ;) ;)

Or you can get a couple of rattles from the dash and the occasional sound of water going through the heater matrix (meant to be a characteristic)..that is all I have. And rattles sorted mainly.
...what I am trying to say is that they are not all bad, and later cars seem better than the original ones.
Chromeline..heard it cannot be fitted aftermarket.
mpg...30mpg around town, a lot more on any sort of run

Here are some pics of mine. Dark silver with black roof. Aero skirts and window tints also visible in the pics.
I do have the sound of rushing water upon start up sometimes and a couple of times I have had a diesel sound but only if the car has sat for a coule days and it only lasts for a couple seconds after starting. Other than that I have had no faults appart from a wee rattle inside which the dealer sorted.

Keeping the thread ON TOPIC...... ;)
Our Cooper S is a June build, and we don't have any of the aforementioned problems (rushing water sound, diesel engine sound, crunchy gears). Although ours is an Auto tranny so I think we've safely side stepped the crunchy gear issue.
We do have a couple of rattles and our sunroof blinds slide out of position without any human intervention (can be sorted by dealer no problem), and a loose bit of trim between the windscreen and the bonnet (again, fixed by dealer on 4th attempt!)
All the problems we've had have just been a bit niggly, nothing nasty at all.
As for MPG, I think we're averaging mid 30's. But with ours being an auto, we will get less than the manual.
Ours is also Laser Blue with black roof so no point in photo's, but Craig's and Ian's cars look the muts nuts. Dark Silver is a very nice colour.:D
Hope this helps.

Thanks for replies....
I've made my mind up!!
I'll give it a miss - too many niggles and I am far too fussy to be bothered with all that.
The Lexus never skips a beat, but I could maybe do with a change - back to the drawing board..........

Don't give it a miss. It is the best car I have ever had. Mines has been recalled a few times. But all probs fixed and every time I get in that car, stick on the sports button, my heid jerks back and I have a great big smile on my coupon. DO IT YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO

I came from a Lexus (RX300SE) and love the mini sooo much more, so much more fun, Lexus was great and comfy probably just toooooo grown up for me. Still must say that apart from corroding alloys it was pretty faultless.

I got bignorm at eastern, although he is no longer there to order me them in and he organised for them to get painted at the dealers. Fitted them myself as it only takes half an hour and is a doddle. Im pretty sure I paid about £420 including all the clips etc.
