Hi Andy, The reason for the Moon looking so big at the moment is that it is low on the Horizon. In many ways it is just like an optical illusion. At any giving time the size of the moon from our prospective here on earth subtends to an angular size of .5 degrees. If you go outside and hold out your hand at arms length using only your pinky you will find out that it would cover it when it looks big or small. You will also find the same thing if you take a photograph and then measure the size. Just a little bit of useless info for you.:D

More useless moon info the Moon is 54 times smaller than the Sun & the distance between the earth & the moon is 54 times smaller than the distance earth & sun. Thats how we get solar eclipes. Told you it was useless.
