bit of a wobble

hi guys had the tracking done on the car yesterday as when i reach 50 mph the steering wheel wobbles quite a bit but goes at 60 any1 else get this tracking was fine so would a strut brace help me out or am i lookin at something else wrong with the steering

defo isn't right, might need a kds but i think you'd be beter getting it all checked as well for anything broken/worn etc... strut brace wouldn't solve it

I thought wobble was usually caused by an out of balance wheel, did you get that done as well?

Even if not, I would take it back to where it was done. If it is doing that, something isn't right.

wheels are fine i think only had them 4 weeks brand new wheels but it was doin that b4 i got wheels but waited till i lowered it to check trackin he said trackin fine am i best takin it to bmw or garage i bought car from as it was a local small garage will it come under tlc warranty car is 53 plate only done 25000 miles dont know much about warranty plus will they blame it on new springs as its lowered 20mm

If you've put aftermarket springs etc on it they'll not honour any warranty i don't think... Best to take it to a garage though and get them to check it all, chances are it needs a KDS Alignment as simply checking the tracking doesn't cover all angles on the mini, geometry could be out on a wheel or two. KDS is about £120/£150 odds

Try jacking the car up and giving the wheels a *shoogle* there shouldn't be much if any play in them, if there is obviously somethings wrong

Some info regarding the kds, it's a lot more technical than simple wheel tracking ;)

Have you just fitted the lowering springs??? See my thread in Mods section 'Vibration after lowering' It is a fairly common fact that when you lower a MINI you sometimes and it can be very random you get a slight vibration.every MINI is different so it is pretty much pot luck if you get a vibration. Lohen run their show car at 50mm and have no issues. But it is normally if you lower more than 30mm that it happens. My MINI is dropped 50mm on KW Coilovers and i did get a slight vibration so i raised the suspension slightly and the problem seems to have gone away.....
It could be linked to the suspension.... Was it Eibachs you got as you should be fine on them as i have run eibachs previously and had no probs...

hi ivano sorry been to work yip they are eibach and it 20mm it happens all the time at 50-55mph gona have the wheels rebalanced 2moro then c if it was just that then look into getting it on a ramp and have a good look thanks guys much appreciated

I've PM'ed you the info of the lazer alignment guy I know. Hope he can help you out........he's a top bloke and really knows his stuff:cool: A few of the NMS members (and ex-member) have used him and can vouch for his knowledge and helpfullness.....plus as soon as he hears its a new mini he knows I've sent them to him.........ohhh wait.....maybe that's a minus not a plus point:rolleyes: :p :D

Ok.. maybe a daft question, but your new wheels, are they Proper Mini ones, or Aftermarket ones of some variety?
If they're aftermarket ones, they may need plastic locating rings in the wheel centres if they don;t have them, or if the wheels have been off and someone's 'lost' one ;). Putting the wheels back on without the locating ring will cause a wobble it they're not PERFECTLY centred (hence the need for locating rings). If they're proper Mini alloys you shouldn't have to worry about this, as they'll fit perfectly as they are - in which case... KDS etc as above ;):D:D
