I've just got back from my dealership after ordering a pair of chrome mirror inserts (amoung other things)... are these cap replacements easy enough to fit in place of the standard matt black caps?

Yes but need to take care as the clips on the inside of the cap are easy to break and not replaceable. starting at the bottom nearest the window press the cover further on with one hand and prize the edge off with the other - you may need a lever of sorts for this bit (ie spoon handle) but make sure you tape it up to stop it damaging the edges of the mirror - then work around to the top of the cover - i think there are 6 mounts.

The new one then simply presses on!

I found a way of taking the original matt black mirror caps off in one go and no clips were broken at all. Its all in the fingers!!;):D

I'm considering the chrome inserts for the front grill as well as the bumper inserts - any idea the best & cheapest place to get them? Ami right in assuming that they just stick on with adhesive tape?

Not sure - i've seen them in the cool new catalogue for about £70 so this they might be proper replacements that involve the removal of the bumpers - but then again they might be stick ons!

Try posting on MINI2 - there's bound to be someone there can help or email cool new or Minispares.

I had the bumper inserts retro fitted.

I bought the parts from the dealership, and took them to a bodyshop where they bonded them on, after cutting off the tabs - to save making holes in the bumper.

The Dealer wasnt interested in doing it, but recommended somewhere.
There stuck on very well - they stayed on after the ford crossing on the Borders Spring Run, and after some numptie played tig with the front bumper
