Creamcooper and I were just having a laugh about furry dice and sun strips on front widows and it got me thinking...

When I were a lad.... My first car was a Vauxhall Nova - great car. Very nippy. 1.0l little thing that would go anywhere.;) Anyway, I had a nice graphic on the back window - "The Nova Touch". I thought it made the car look cool.

Anyone else do something incredibly embarrassing as this?

When I was 18 I had a nice 6 month old Corsa Sport in silver. My mates and I decited to strip most of the dash out and paint most of it silver. After we done it we realised how rubbish it looked.Upon my return home I almost got a proper hidding from my folks when they spotted it as they had not long purchased the car as a sort of gift for me. I had to spend a few pennies getting new bits from Belmont Vauxhall to put it back proper.

I mean it really did look daft. I cringe at the thought now.

But that's the kind of thing we did as kids. Admittedly, I tweaked around with my 8 year old Nova, which I bought with £2k of my own money, earned as a YTS'er. But I still didn't go as far as ripping the dash out and painting it silver. Although I did buy a nice set of plastic wheel trims for it. Very nice they were.;)

I had the dash out the Nova, and replaced all the original white lamps with green ones. Except they weren't really bright enough. That and an electric ariel.

Must be something about the Nova!

i had a MKII escort spent hours masking up the wheels so that the wee centre bits on the wheel could be painted black, then spent ages trawling round the scrappy looking for a new set of the plastic nut covers

Lenore had a MKI (or was it a MKII??) escort while we were dating. She loved it. Very spacious inside. Furry dice were banned.;)

Garfield's stuck to the window were OK (in their day) but why oh why did people insist on sticking the feet so wide apart it looked like poor Garfield was about to have his limbs ripped from his torso? Even Lenore had a Garfield.

Remember Flat Eric (from the Levi's ads)? I had one of those in the back seat of the car, strapped in with a seat belt. I thought it was :cool::cool:. I was a driving instructor at the time and my customers thought it was funny. Not sure I'd do it now though.:clown:

Just had a slap from Lenore.

She had a MKI Astra. Not a MKI Escort. Whatever it was, it had comfy back seats anyway.:D;)

No, there was a Montego that "talked", can't remember what it used to go on about though. My uncle had one once.

The montego never talked. It was the Vandem Plas Meastro that that had the talking dash.

My mum had a Renault 5 Turbo when I was just a wee boy. It was one of the last ones, metallic blue, I think it was called a 'raider' or something like that.

Yes but all it ever said was... "Oh, I seem to have broken down again."
