Hmm, difficult, i traded my S in for a Subaru WR1, a fantastic car to drive with loads of power etc :p
I sold it within 6 weeks and bought another Mini :approve:
My reasoning, the fun factor wasn't there as much, it used way too much fuel, wasn't worried at the cost too much, just fed up always being in a garage :evil: plus, with the surfboard on the back it simply looked daft, to me.

It really depends on why you think you want to change, have you driven the cars you mention :question: or are they on your wish list.
I would advise getting an extended test drive in either, for a weekend if possible, that way you'll find out if the car suits for personal every day needs as well as the obvious fun times.

Escort Cossie is a bit of a classice these days, would seem a waste to buy one and actually use it, if its a weekend sunny day car your after then prob fit the bill perfectly.

As for the Evo, as fine as the cars are my personal opinion is that they date majorly quickly when ever a new one comes out, think its because its main selling point is a car that's majorly technically advanced to drive an 8 when they are now at 10 kinda defeats the purpose.

If you def want something 4 wheel drive you thought about a Golf 4motion (I had a 2.8 V6, great handling car) or an R32, or audi S3, or S4 or even an RS4.

Cossie is a classic (or will be) and a mint one that's not been abused or altered will be hard to find. Driving wise, the Evo would wipe the floor with it but that's not the point.

Very different cars - Mini is fun, cheap to run in comparsion to those you mention. Cossie is a classic, insurance would be sky high on it. Evo is a technical masterpiece and would be immensely fast.

I Considered a evo before i bought my mini, but after looking at a few & weighing up the costs, the mini was the better option, if you dont mind getin the evo serviced every 4000miles go for it, fast as fook, dont consider a escort cos if you want to use it everyday, had a few of them & nightmare to get parts now & finding somebody to look after it, becuse it will always need something.

I had a Subaru Impreza UK300 Prodrive before my MCS. Was fantastic fun but expensive to run. Insurance rocketed after a small altercation with the police on the M74 and 6 points. Also was subject to random acts of vandalism - keyed, wing mirror snaped off , et c. Eventually got pissed off and bought a MCS and haven`t looked back.

Also thought about the Evo but the constant servicing put me off as T100L mentioned.

It's true enough, running costs are high, mainly on the fuel side of things!! I got 3 years free servicing so regular services were no biggie, and at less than £100 for a normal oil service, it's waaaaaay cheaper than I was for my mini, infact, all the servicing is cheaper than for a mini, parts, labour etc...:) My insurance was cheaper with the evo, but then my mini was a bit, um, modified!:I I still almost cry every time I think of my evo, and growl at Rob for making me sell it:(, I've never really missed my mini, but I know she's gone to a loving home!:kiss::D

I did have all the prices for services, generally, they're every 4500 miles or six months, but like I said, the intermediate ones are under £100 for the simple oil service and air filter stuff, then the annual ones go up to between £200-£300 but that's cause it's more in-depth (can't remember the full list of stuff). The expensive services are obviously brakes and differential ones but they're not very often!

Or, go for a megane 225, they're fabulicious!! Absolutely loving every minute of owning this car!!:D:p:D:p

Once you've got used to blowing everything away with the EVO, and probably losing your licence, you'll be hankering after the S again. These 4WD Wonder-Motors are technically great, but apart from being devastatingly quick - no bad thing, but where can you really use it these days? - where's the 'character'? I've been in my pal's STi PPP Scooby (he now has a Porsche Cayman S - lucky git) - and it was INCREDIBLY fast, but the ride was worse than the MINI by MILES, build felt flimsy in comparison with the MINI, the interior was a yawn and once you got beyond the pace, it was a overall bit soul-less and actually quite uncomfortable in 'normal' use. I honestly wouldn't have swapped my S for it. I'd maybe swap for the Porsche though... Cossie is now a 'Classic' - so I'm not sure about using it as an 'everyday car'. Spares, insurance, getting it knicked etc. Finding one which hadn't been messed with would be a task in itself. Also IMHO both the EVO and the Cossie can arguably create 'negative' impressions compared to the MINI - which everybody from 8 to 80 seems to love.

The MINI is just more FUN more of the time, fast or slow, it still has a cool image, is affordable to insure and run and keeps its value well - plus the fact you get to hang out with a great bunch of friendly like-minded people. Sell if you like, but give it six months and I'll bet you'll wish you hadn't!!!

Julz - how's the Servicing cheaper on the EVO than the MINI? What's cheaper than 'TLC' for 5 years/50K miles? Also all that EVO servicing every ten minutes would be a pain in the @rse. “Never really missed the MINI.....” eh? Ah well, we all make mistakes. Even Burrrrrrrds.

The evo servicing every 4k is only if you have active YAW!!! Every 10k if not. Plus to be honest i could service it myself!! Never drove an evo but my dads had 2 cossies, small turbo & big turbo, and absolute loved them both, My mini insurance is £850, both the cossie & evo are £1400. Im 21. My dad was getting 24mpg in his cossie and i am gettin about 22mpg in the mini (damn that alta, makin me put ma foot down to hear it!!) I totally know what your all sayin about the mini being loved ive had soooo many comments on the car from all different ages, Its a lot to think about gettin rid of it cos i absolutely love it but i was just wantin somethin a bit faster! Suppose i could maybe start modifyin it properly but as i know from my RS turbos thats when the problems start lol! Ive got a lot to think about :)

21 years old...tuned MCS....Cossie...EVO... I was driving a Mini 1000 when I was 21. My biggest modding decision was what I had to give up so I could buy my Oselli 12G295 Head - Changed days indeed! By the way - I'm 44, so I qualify as an “Old Fart”.

You said “I absolutely love it” so why not enjoy your S for a while longer. It's a cracking car, so don't ruin it by tuning it more - it's a 'MINI Dead End Adventure' after a while. If you want to go faster you'll run out of licence (or road) by the time you're 25 - where do you end up? - a 600BHP EVO which DOES need servicing every ten minutes and eats tyres etc?. Then THAT won't be fast enough, 'cos there'll be some b*gger who turns up and wastes it with his (or her) 800bhp Skyline... The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, eh? You've got YEARS left to get to the really fast stuff. Start saving for that Cayman S now. It's 'only' 45K. About the cost of a well-tuned 2nd hand Skyline... ah, decisions, decisions. Now where did I put my Pension Book....?

Mainly cause 'in my day' it was only for 3 years and I preferred more regular servicing, and to keep the book looking healthy, stupidly took it to JC's to be charged an arm and a leg (and several organs as well!:eek::blackeye::disapprove:). The servicing twice a year is no big hassle, at least mitsi give you a good courtesy car without the piffle of having to sort out your insurance etc.!:sleepy::D:)

As for the 'where can you really use it' bit, I would say on the same every day roads as a mini!!;):D

well i have owned a scoob sti uk with 340 bhp on standard turbo, and it is good fun, but it gets boring, i much prefer RWD tbh as it has that i could die if i misjudge the corner factor. and when in something like that..or the mini when exiting a corner well you feel so much better and enjoy the car more. if i had to go for 1 it would be escort every time, i almost bought an evo but found it boring compared to the subaru
