Ha! When most om my contemporaries were out chasing girls and riding their bikes around town and generally participating in a "normal" teenage period.... I was tucked away in my bedroom with my willy in my hand. Well.... As you say.. Jet Set Willy, with the controller in my hand. Along with any number of fantastic Commodore 64 games; Elite, Manic Miner, Commando, Etc., Etc.

Ahhhh... those were the days.:approve::approve:

It's a wonder I turned out the perfectly normal well adjusted mature human being I did.:eek:

Oh aye. And as for the C64 "ready" screen. I stole that (with permission) from Paul Mullet on MINI2 - nice guy BTW. And he stole it from his brother-in-law, who stole it from....?

I was at a Commodore Conference/Exhibition thing in York many moons ago. Went there with a Mate (also a computer geek). And I remember sitting in a panel debate room with 4 even nerdier computer geeks on the stage chatting about how to cool the 1541 5 1/4 " disc drives. One of their suggestions was to mount it on 4 small leggo blocks, one in each corner. It worked!!!:approve:

Close - Daley Thomson Decathlon - a real joystick wrecker! My fav game on the Speccy 48k was way of the exploding fist - in the days before special moves on the playstaion came to the fore!

Ah, the memories.

I'd just got to something like "Super Commander" level on ELITE and I went through the save game process, on the spare tape. It was one stop short of being classed as ELITE anyway. So off to bed, me being about 13 years old and it being 3 AM. Next day, home from school, straight onto the C64, loaded in ELITE then put my saved user tape in, went through the load user menu's, and click record/play on the tape drive. AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHH!! Wiped my ELITE record in one fell swoop. Cried for days. Ditched computers. Went out to discover grils. Got fed up trying to figure out girls, back to the C64 two days later.:approve:

Ah, happy memories of days gone by when gameplay was more important than graphics (just as well really!)

Daley Thompson Declathon - 10 elements of gameplay that only involved 3 keys. I seem to remember hurdles was a real nightmare.

Paperboy was another I played a lot!

And then came the Amiga with Sensible Soccer....

I remember upgrading to the Speccy 128k with the built in tape drive! Thought I was the bee-knees. Bought Predator and it had 2 tapes to load - stuck the first one in - 10 mins later it had loaded - click play and a 2 minutes opening sequence started of the spaceship crash landing to earth..........then it said: PLEASE INSERT TAPE 2...........and then followed another 10mins loading for the game itself - very irritating!
