Hi all
I have found a Cooper S that I am very interested in however the side windows appear to have scratches on them, poss someone being careless when scraping ice? Anyway when you run your nails down the glass you can def feel the scratches.
Does anyone know if this can be repaired or has anyone had this and successfully repaired the scratches?
Alternatively has anyone experienced this on a Cooper? Is it the window mechanism etc that could be causing the damage?
Thanks
Pamela

Are they vertical scratches?
Some cars have an "issue" with the seals that smear the window when you put the window down. However I've never heard of it scratching.
As for repairing that, wouldn't think it's doable.

they actually run in both directions. which is odd and what made us think scraping windows may have done it, although it does have some odd v shaped ones too......odd.

Could have been a nasty car wash? V shaped could be a scraper if used in a manner other than directed.

I doubt that could be fixed without replacing the windows - something I would not want done.
Keep looking Pamela...

A diamond ring could cause scratches to glass....but I'm not blaming the female of the species.
We all know they are the smarter and wisest.

something rings a bell that there is a type of polish that window fitters use that can remove scratches. I think it was called jewelers polish but im not to sure. Im sure it was a glash fitter that told me about it. Why not try and contact some one like auto glass, they can take chips out your windscreen so they may be able to sort somehthing for you.
P.S dont get the windows tinted if they are scratched because the tint will show up the scratches really bad. :)

My dad had bad scrathes on his TT repaired by a glass specialist in our area. He used a special polish to do it. Window looks brand new again.

Would you be able to provide contact details of company who repaired your dads TT windows, and also location?
Thanks

If the scratches aren't to bad then good old toothpaste is great as its a very mild grinding paste:approve: But if there really noticeable then I don't know what to suggest I'm afraid:I :p:D:approve:

I had scratches on a watch face, Brasso took them away. I assume it works in a similar way to the toothpaste idea.

what you need is jewellers rouge. works a treat used it on our X5 to take scratches off windscreen.
total breeze to use. you can buy it from ebay for something like 4.99 follow instructions very gentle rub and the glass is like brand new. It what the glass guys use.

just checked ebay and the products jewellers rouge says
'If you run your finger over the scratch and can feel it - the scratch is too deep for this product'
maybe it won't work for me then!

You could always give the window a wee hit and then spend the £60 or whatever it is on your insurance and get a new window.

Jewllers rouge is the stuff you are on about, its great for taking small scratches out, obviously it wont take really deep ones out. Ive used it for taking fine scratches out of watch glasses with pretty amazing results.

I've got the same issue with my drivers window. All my scratches run vertically though so it's more like the window opening and closing has been the cause.
If you've not picked it up already then talk to the dealer about it and they might be able to do something about it. I had a lot of paint missing from the door handles on my car from what looked like finger nail scratches and they had some guy touch up all that no problems before delivering the car to me.:)

Mark - my driver's side window has vertical scratches, as did my '01 COOPER previously. I know why though - 'cos I'm always winding down the windows to listen to the exhaust!! It really shouldn't happen though, I reckon the mechanism is at fault.... but as it doesn't hamper my vision, I just put up with it.

It's just something that you don't notice after a while, not unless the sunlight shines on it at a certain angle.
Of course if it really bothers you just put the windows down when you get in the car and you'll never see it.:p

An effective solution Mark, if a wee bit damp.....
