My iMac is really slow compared to my PC, will adding RAM speed things up?

If so how do I do it?

1.83 Intel 20" screen it only has 512k (I think)

There is a wee door on the bottom in the middle under the screen. My dad has the same machine but with 1.5 GB and it runs fine.

Ive got a 2ghz g5 imac. access to ram is different on your model, the entire back comes off my machine
after taking out a couple of screws.
512mb is a min requirement really for these machines imo, which is probably why its not running very quickly.
As gaj has said another gig of ram should sort your speed problems out.
Crucial.com will give you the exact specs of ram that you require for that model
