Hi All,
I am always on MINI2 standing up for people who don't have AC on their MINIs. Some people say that you won't sell a MINI if it hasn't got AC or it's worth thousands less than one with. Obviously I think that is not true.
So could everyone please post in here if their MINI HAS or HAS NOT got AC and I'll work out the results as NMS doesn't provide a poll feature to do it for me
Also please post what model you've got.
Cheers,
KenL

Thanks Tahra - I'm confused but I'll put you down as a YES :p
I think the S results will be skewed as it is included in the S CHILLI pack and a lot of people want that anyway for the big wheels & half leather seats etc.

Yes,
Upgraded to Climate Control in my S with Chilli Pack. Would not live with out Automatic AC now, even in Scotland. Last 5 cars have had climate control. Once you have it you notice a big difrence driving with out. I would not buy a car without it.

I would defo get it again. I have it on all year round. People say that it saps power and though I have no doubt that this is technically true I have never noticed. I manage to keep up with most folk on the runs! Plus it looks mauch better on the dash!
Opening the window is not really the same! I agree that it is an expensive option but if you want it that's what it costs! I doubt that it makes a major difference come resale time though I would expect that it might boost the value a little. Less than the cost though.
I would say if you want it you buy it, if you are not bothered you don't!

No Aircon. And if I were buying a second hand Mini I would prefer to buy one without due the expensive repair costs if it is not looked after. There were a few days last summer I wished I had it tho' - Gaj is right - an open window is not the same.

I don't have Air Con whats the point ??
If its warm then open the window and go for a blast!thats what a MINI is for.
PS it also drains some of the engine power and screws up the MPG:D
WOW I have just sussed out why all thoe Cooper's's keep holding me up!!

Just for the record, I'm not too bothered about having AirCon or not, given living in Scotland. My current Cooper, which I bought used, came with Manual A/C, and I have specified Chili pack on the new S. I was thinking about paying the extra £230 or so to upgrade to Auto Climate, but the dealer reckoned it was more hassle than it's worth - cutting in when you don't want it, and switching off when you do?! I'll just set the temp dial and press the button.
Asides from the above, there have been a few times (even up here in Aberdeen) when it's been hot 'n' sticky out in the summer, but raining, and I ain't one for windows down and getting soaked. Hence A/C was a blessing. Also, I'm not a big fan of windows down when doing 70mph on the Dual Carriageways / M'ways, so the A/C goes on when it's hot out then too.
Am currently trying to sell my Cooper, so am hoping the Manual A/C helps the re-sale price.
Cheers

Would be tempted on the next MINI, for the basic aircon.
My Dad's Golf TDi has it, and is pretty good for warm days, but on a small car? I'm not 100% convinced

I like the defrost setting, which switches on the heated screen as well and works very quick. The climate is also v.good in a dark car in the summer.

Wow, great response thanks & keep them coming. :)
So far it's easy to see that the majority (if not all) Cooper S have AC. I think that is partly to do with it being included in CHILLI pack and having AC is more of an expected luxury in the more expensive car.
Another thing that stands out in my extremely scientific and valid research :p is that there are not enough ONEs in the world (at least this part of it) and none of them have AC.;)
Like I said please keep posting.
Cheers, Ken.

One thing I would liked to of had in the new Mini, is the rear windows to open, can look very cool and even better if they were to have been electric, like the Renault's.

Just for the record, a lot of people " just open the windows". How many do this at 70 mph and can say they enjoy driving like that? I have a relative that used to say that and A/C was a waste of money. That was until he actually got A/C on a car and now if you even suggest opening a window when driving he gives you a funny look.
Another good thing to point out is that A/C not only cools the air but also dries the air ( Conditions it). This stops you getting stuffy in the summer and misting up in the winter, the reason your cars defrost quicker.

I admit I may be a weirdo but on a beautiful sunny day with the tunes blaring I do enjoy driving at 70mph down the motorway with the windows down. The point about doing it when it's raining is well taken though.

Great thread KENL. Very interesting to see the different views. Can I "through one into the pot" ? Am I the only person that would like a"softer ride". I love the handling of the S and I see the logic in runflats. If they are good enough for Ferrari etc.;but at my age the East Lothian pot holes take their toll on my back. I have never driven to the point that I have "lost it", so I would be happy to lose a bit of grip for a bit of comfort.
Somebody tell me I haven't lost the plot???

For those who have aircon and don't use it (what a waste of money that was then eh :D) I believe you are meant to run it even for a short while every week or so to keep it ticking over.
Also it is possible though perhaps not very likely in our climate that it can go "off" and develop a nasty smell if bacteria builds up in it due to it not being used.

I have manual AC in my Cooper Ken. I must admit I always thought AC was a waste of money in this country until I actually got a car with it. Its when you are stuck in atraffic jam on a hot day that you really appreciate it. Comments noted on using regularly, I believe that is to distribute the lubricants around the system, so good advice.

KENL, I don't think Sioban would agree to a swap, but my first experience of a new mini was in a ONE and I thought it was great. It was a much softer ride and as i have said before, the S is only faster in a straight line or in bragging at the bar.

Ken - don't know if you've done this already but why not order a more specced ONE (S spokes/ sports suspension etc) and put £500 aside for an induction kit and one click (both can be removed for dealer trips) this would get you better performance and still leave you a couple of grand beter off!

Just spotted this Wul.
Apart from the fact I'm not keen on mods doing this would still be NOWHERE near as quick as an S.
Anyway, fitting an induction kit can actually reduce your power output from what I've read on MINI2. The first editon of the New MINI mag also didn't find much difference with them either.
Also, I don't want S-spokes - 16" is big enough for me.

Back to the air con thing, I think it should be part of the basic spec of the car, not an extra.
A/C is even standard on Corsas!
