Ipod install

Do you think this install would work in theory?

Does the aux out kit from Bmw fit the single cd player with radio boost (2001 model)?

Having purchased above kit, then use the Belkin Auto Kit

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thinking i dont necessarly need to change my head unit.

I'm watching this with interest as it seems a great way to get away from my skipping CDs and crackling radio! (complaints to dealer and supposedly new stereo fitted has made no difference!). Sorry I cannot help Brian - no experience of this sort of thing, but I look forward to seeing the install and hearing how you did it. Good luck.

I have fitted all of the above to my (soon to be gone) 2003 One.
The Aux kit doesnt work on previous versions of Boost Radio/CD, tho' there are alternatives that use the CD changer connections.

The Belkin Tunedok fits the front cupholders (just), and the Car Kit links it all together. The installation was pretty simple and the sound quality is pretty decent.

I would recommend the installation, as it saves having CD's rattling about and keeps all your tunes in one place.

I would post piccies, but it's ta ta to the Mini tomorrow, due to having too many build quality issues.

BMW have made me an offer of a ££££££grand goodwill towards a new one in March, but the trade in value to change was a joke, so I went elsewhere.

The dealer was ok, but I lost faith in the car as the squeaks, rattles and other issues relating to the interior got too much for my senses.

Thanks for the info guys, im currently speaking to mikethemini about possible solutions. The ice link sounds good though aslong as you dont have a cd changer as it uses the same outputs, but it gives you track selection control over the ipod from the headunit

macblob, I'd be very interested in what you get done. I've got the CD autochanger so the solution above wouldn't work for me. Mind you, I don't have the ipod yet....

Hi Brian, having only got a 'wave' radio/cassette in my car, I decided against wiring the iPod in, though I could have done it via the CD prep wiring I guess. I use the iTrip FM thingy, very neat and means I can control volume via radio controls on the MFSW. Didn't bother with a special iPod holder, just stuff it in the right hand cup holder, the rubber collar holds it very nicely. If I don't have my iPaq SatNav with me I can put the iPod in the holder I have for that.

A hard disk/radio stereo for the car - sounds great :D:cool: no way it could skip so better than CD and 20Gb hard disk holding 1000s tracks so better than having dozens of cassettes rattling around the car.
They also offer facia adaptor plate, ISO wiring harness and radio antenna adaptor. ISO harness is "round pin" or "rectagular pin" - anyone know what type my cooper will have?
I'm very tempted but suppose I should give the dealer another chance to fix my crappy CD/radio first. :dead:

Duncan - got my "cool new" catalogue in the post yesterday and they have that head unit in it too - it's on their web site too http://www.coolnew.co.uk/product_details.asp?id=126&type=21 looks like a good option for the mini - the hard drive connects via usb to your pc - as for wiring harness - simply phone or email Mikeythemini and tell him what head unit you currently have and what your installing and he'll supply the correct adaptor for about £25ish including the aerial adaptor and fascia plate.

That would also go for those things which clip over your mobile as hands free kits and broadcast to your car stereo!

Very true. I did read somewhere about someone creating a bluetooth kit for an iPod which would be good, but you would still need to have a bluetooth enabled stereo!

I have been searching for the necessary connections to hook up my iPod gear to my Alfa (now that the MINI is history), and was amazed at the price of the connection.

The Aux imput harness for the 147 is V. similar to MINI / BMW fare, but cost only £6.50 from Blaupunkt, which is inclusive of VAT and P&P.

I thought someone was taking the piss, but no, that IS the correct price............................................. ..........

I must've been stoopid to pay £35.00 to BMW for the MINI bit.
