View Full Version : Mothership Run 3 - Friday 13th April, Evening Tour

Craig
9th January 2007, 06:14 AM
This thread has been created to give info etc on the tour, arrangements for travel/convoy etc. ALL BANTER TO GO IN THE OTHER THREAD... :approve:

Anyone fancy a tour of the BMW Factory to see the new model being built ? ?

I have spoken with the lovely Ulrika ka ka ka ka at BMW Oxford (who arranges the tours) and have arranged another date for a tour. As with all the changes currently going on in the factory, she can't confirm it for absolute definate, but she does not see it being a problem.

The date I have selected (to ensure I keep my plums and my marriage) is Friday 13th April (anyone superstitious ?)

The format will be the same, leave early on Friday morning from various locations for a convoy down to Oxford, Bite to eat, tour at approx 18:00hrs, then back to the bar for a chat. On the Sat, people can suit themselves... (some came straight back up the road, some went on holiday, some went to a car museum on the way home... all up to yourselves).

For those that want a wee bit more info - see last year's thread... http://www.newminiscotland.co.uk/snitzforums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5667

Rough Convoy Details: (More detailed instructions nearer the time;))

First Meet will be @ Bothwell Services - Leaving @ 07:30hrs

Next Stop - Southwaite Services

Next Stop - Huntleys of Salmesbury for Brunch

Next Stop - Norton Canes Services (M6 Toll Road)

Last Stop - Premier Travel Inn, Oxford Business Park, Garsington Road, OXFORD, OX4 2JZ

Craig & Jude,

Looks like we'll not make this run now - :(

Just sold our house at the weekend (on the first viewing!!!) :D, but the house we tried to go for we were outbid before we began!

Anyhow, we're frantically searching for houses at the mo ... we'll have to move out of ours around end March, beg April - no time or energy for a run to Oxford I'm afraid!!!

Anyhow, we're glad our house is sold ... anyone got a few spare rooms!!! ;)

Only joking ..... MUM .... here we come !!!! :D:D:D

Sorry, just noticed I might be in the wrong thread here ... :I

Craig
28th February 2007, 07:09 AM
nope, the numbers are just about right to be honest and I'm much happier taking 14 cars down than nearer 30. Also if it gets too big, you have all the hassle about contacting all the police forces on the way down and we are about 3 months too late for starting that planning...;)

I would suggest that the arrangements stay the same (also I know that some people like a long lie ;))

Getting excited about this run now. Lets hope we can chin some bods down there on the known faults on the cars (R56) during the tour.
Brings back the memories of the lad shouting to me ' like your dress' ( I was one of the ones wearing a kilt on last years run), to my reply ' Aye I got it last night from your mothers wardrobe'.
Superb put down we all thought to many a chuckle:)

Right Folks,

Just doing a quick count between this tour and the Sat Morn tour and what I need is those who have not confirmed on this thread that their Hotel is booked, please let me know asap. It seems that about half of all the people who originally wanted to go have pulled out. :(.

If there is only going to be about 35 people in total, then there WILL only be one tour and thereby only ONE convoy down to Oxford. I apologise if this mucks up anyones plans, but Plant Oxford very kindly offered the Sat Morn tour to accomodate the additions, which to date have dwindled to a very low number.

I worked hard with Ulrike at Oxford to get the 2 tours and would hate to muck them about by cancelling the second tour at the last minute. Your help would be appreciated. Also if you are on the second tour, please confirm with Sedgie if you have not done so already.

I thank you. :D

Crap news Tony!!! Sorry you can't make it, that sucks.

Good plan Craig - informing BMW Plant ASAP. With the one bigger convoy, does this now pose any problems Re. informing the Constabularies concerned of our route, as was discussed previously? It'll be good to be 'all together' though. By the way, my Hotel room's booked, although this isn't posted on the list.

The Dogfather
4th April 2007, 05:00 PM
Craig, at the moment I'm still planning to come along, I won't be staying over though. I'll probably meet up with you at Carlisle or Preston.

Just to let you know, I might have to pull out unless I can sort a job out by the 13th as money might be tight next month so any 'luxuries' will have to be avoided. I'm pretty hopeful I can get something sorted though as I'm looking for work through temping agencies.

Craig
4th April 2007, 06:36 PM
Thanks for the updates folks.

Elfman, first post updated.. :D We won't worry about the rozzers as we should be no bigger than last year and all was well then.... I was just worried about having 40 cars in convoy.. ;)

Vidal, no bother, just let me know as soon as you can,

Just waiting on confirmations from Old Boy Crombers and Smitty, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP AS THE SECOND TOUR LOOKS LIKE A NO GO...:disapprove::disapprove:

Malcolm, would it not be easier/quicker for you to head down the A68/A7. We could meet up in the (derelict) Dunedin branch in Selkirk then head down in a mini MINI convoy of three. Whatever's easiest for you.

I'll stick myself in the middle of the convoy so I don't get lost. Also arranging a Boeing Stratofreighter transport plane to refuel me en-route - so that's sorted. Had such a great time this weekend , Oxford was superb. Loved the journey down in convoy but getting beat at table football by Mrs Fossey was a low point. Nice to see everyone again and some new people. I will post some pictures once the site is running faster as its soooo slow at the moment. Great banter after the plant and well what can I say Marky and Sandy what a laugh it was watching Spiderman and his lovely wife trying to get to their room, priceless.

What a fantastic weekend.:approve::approve::approve::approve:

Excellent convoy down, completely incident free. Tour was excellent, John/John/Tony are a great laugh and so knowledgeable it beggars belief. Still amazes us the way the cars are built, with the dash's (SP?) arriving every 18 minutes, just in time to go into the cars etc.;);)

Thanks again to Craig for organising. Here's to Oxford 2008???

Got some pics, will upload as soon as NMS is more stable.

Edit: Forgot to say - Stoney, 10/10 for dedication to the family business mate:approve:. 800 Miles in one day:(. But when it's gotta be done, it's gotta be done.;)

You don't get many better weekends than that one. FABULOUS, FANTASTIC, SUPERSMASHINGREAT :D:D:D

The trip down was brilliant, the tour was once again amazing and as Andy says John/John/Terry are sooooooooo knowledgeable is quite scary :) It really is mindboggling how all those parts come together from both inside and outside the factory at just the right time to be put together to make our oh so superb Mini.

Special thanks from me must go to Craig, Jude, Jason, Lesley, Mum & Dad for making my bday on friday so memorable. Mum - I'm not going to ask how you managed to 'obtain' the pressie :eek: But it was very much appreciated indeed. The table football was also a great laugh (even if I wasone of those who got beaten fairly quickly) Oxford 2008 can't come quick enough now :D:D:D

Great to meet some new folks and see everyone again. Well done to everyone for making Oxford 2007 such a wonderful time and hope you all had a nice drive back home, I certainly did and what an amazing run it was - big thanks to Fiona and Allan for that ;) (Oh and what was that weather like !!!:clown::clown:;))

what a great weekend. I just didn't want it to stop although I don't think Archie and Fergus thought that they enjoyed their walked off the lead tonight after being cooped up in the box most days think it was a bit hot for them today.

Yes indeed the 2 Johns and Terry are cracking guys. I asked them of their time at the plant which was the fav cars they worked on. Either the Rover P6 or the Rover 600 was their answer aswell as the Mini;)

My wee Cooper was exhausted after that trip over the Yorkshire dales today puffing like mad to keep in front of you Cooper S guys her tongue was gasping for a wash but bugger that in the garage she went covered in bug splat.

Best bit of driving I saw this weekend has to go to the guy in his renault that we saw today what was he like.

The weather was great as was the company
many thanks to Craig organising this weekend.

where can we go next.

Fan-damn-tastic weekend folks! BIG BIG thanks to ALL who toiled in various ways to make it a classic NMS Road Trip: Tour/Run-Arranging, Bags of Sweeties, The 'Weefossy Fitba Spectacular', the list goes on... Marky C won't forget his 53rd birthday in a hurry... and they MIGHT even let us back in next year.

Stoney - bummer you had to leave us, what a marathon journey - hope your customer appreciated it!

Hope you guys enjoyed York, and that it's still in one piece. I got home OK - ta to Colin for the Sat Nav guidance, we both had to stop for petrol simultaneously about 70 miles south of Glasgow (I think) - I worked out my overall mpg to be around 37-ish, not too bad at all. AND I made the girls' Birthday Party today - after a long lie in!

The weekend gave me food for thought and a year or so to sort out the spec of my next motor. Lightning Blue/Black S, 'WebSpoke' Alloys, JCW upgrade.....or Pepper White/Black roof, or maybe a COOPER D....or a comprehensive makeover of 'Old Faithful'...ahh decisions, decisions. Anyway, the trip was decisively successful - see you all soon.

Thanks for a great trip away. Sarah and I had a superb time. Tour was amazing and the banter at night was top notch. Must see more kilts next time though.
Bring on Oxford 2008.

As mentioned by everyone, excellent trip, great tour, well organised, the birthday surprises were superb.
The table footie was great fun too ;)
How nice was the 1,000,000 mini  especially the raised graphics

defo the "bees knees" as everyone has said. Big thanks to Craig & Co.
Marky, hopefully Sioban paid cash, cause I wouldn't wish anything else on the poor guy!;)
Was it true Elfman was seen buying a footie game on the way home? Plenty practice before next time:evil: because I'm sure we will see that game again.
Ian, came back on the B709 Langholm to Innerleithen road. Is this included in your run as it had fantastic scenery and a beautiful Tibetian monestry to visit!! It's very narrow in parts so maybe too difficult for a mini run?
Does anyone think there would be support for another "stopover" event later in the year, especially as Cullen isn't happening?

ianking
16th April 2007, 09:59 PM
Malcolm.
I have been on that road before, its quite a sight to see the Tibetian monestry with all its large bright Budha sculptures. I wasnt going to include that road as it was a bit of the track for us.

Your probably right Ian as it would be hard to control everyones' speed. I see a biker was killed on the A708 near St Mary's loch on Sunday. We never know "what's round the next corner"!!

And one was killed just outside Earlston on Friday, and a cyclist is in a critical condition in the BGH after being hit by a car on Sunday....:(:(

I'm ever grateful for the protection offered by the cocoon of a car.

In order to get off THAT subject I am getting back on thread and posting up some pics.

Obviously the long drive down and one too many worthers originals had taken its toll on Elfman as he fell asleep in one of the factory display cars.

Dad Fossy however was wide awake as he awaited the James Bond Style ejector seat to shoot him out the roof of the factory

Got a few questions on the above picture...

1. Why do you both have a strange grin on your face?:D
2. Just exactly what is Jason doing with his hand behind your back?:D
3. And why are you having to hold your sporran against your body?:D:D
Perhaps all three are connected in some way.;):D:eek::blackeye:

Oh, and someone needs to tell Jason his socks are falling down.
